Resources and Materials

For class 3, October 19th, it was suggested some readings and videos. The one that got my attention was the video from Jeremy Harner about error correction: "Does correction work?" Next we will find, some of Harner's ideas from the video:

  • Harner expresses in his talk how important is to know different ways to show students they made a mistake, as well as how to know what is wrong.
  • Likewise, for example, for written tasks, the author says how difficult it is for teachers to assess students without the student present, the teacher must guess what the student could have said.
  • Using "very good" with our students, or even in our daily life closes the conversation, since the phrase doesn't give space to go deeper into the idea.
  • We as teachers must go beyond correction, and go to FEEDBACK, it is more relevant for the students.
  • Corrections of feedback, immediately or after the class? The idea is to find a place in the middle.
